I am wanting to buy a sandblaster and i was wondering if i were to hook up two of my compressors together would i have enough air. I have a 1.8hp 20 gal Husky with 4.3CFM @ 90psi and a 6hp 21gal powermate that will put out about 6CFM @ 90 psi. would that be enough to effectively use a 20 gal pressurized blaster from harbor frieght? The husky would get burned out trying to keep up. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 171 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 171 | yup, even with the $400 3.5 hp 60 gal 125 & i can't remember what cfm campbell hausfeld or husky you'd be stopping & waiting for it to catch up more than you'd be blasting. i had one like that & it wouldn't maintain 90 psi using air tools. i got the next size up 2 stage with 80 gal tank & now it will maintain 90 psi, although sometimes it runs continuoisly,bot that's ok. i believe it would run a small sandblaster fine. hp, gallons, psi & such isn't what really important though. CFM is. do some more searches. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 354 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 354 | It's possible to run them together and get 10.3 CFM. It's done all the time in industrial applications. Normally you'd stage them so that one runs for most of the light loads and the other one starts when the pressure drops further. This requires resetting the pressure controls, something that may not be possible on some of the newer smaller compressors. You should also plumb them with check valves so one can't feed into the other tank. If you simply connect the hoses together the regulators will likely fight each other, the one with slightly hihger pressure will force the other one closed. Even still 10.3 CFM probably isn't enough to run a decent sandblaster although Harbor Freight may claim theirs will run on less.
