If you break one off there will be hell to pay. I never could understand those things... they actually cause the bolt to expand making it tighter in the threads.
I usually just drill them out. Start with a small drill and work your way up to the size required for tapping. Most of the time they'll spin out from the force of the drilling but if not then I just run a tap through them and I've never had one screw up on me yet.

This is my preferred method although I don't usually weld a nut on them any more, just build up a little pile of weld and grab it with vice grips. I use a TIG Welder, but I expect a MIG will work and if you're good stick works with a washer and nut. Can't count the number of broken fasteners I've removed this way, it works that well.
