Just got a call from the Vienna, Mo. Fire Protection District and the board accepted my bid on this ladder truck.

Don't know how long this link will last, so this is the only pictures of it and due to a family get together, I will not be able to pick the truck until next week.
It's an in service Fire Truck and no repairs should have to be done in the near future.
I have not said a thing to the Wife or anybody around here about it all.
I guess I have no other choice than to do the rule that says
"It's easier to get forgiveness than permission"

Think I can talk the wife in riding in it to KC Sept 10?
Would this be the first Fire Bolt at the reunion?
We will be there, but what we bring is still up in the air.

The other thing I can say is,
"At least I'm not running the bars like I was when I met you"
That one is kind of wore out though.

First question she will ask, "what are you going to do with it?"
And my answer will/should be?
(sorry Dan, we don't prune trees and our houses are only one story)

But Honey, I could use it to help build barns and set trusses and it has a 637ci motor in it.

Life should be interesting in the next few weeks.

I pick it up tomorrow and already have the Historic plates and insurance on it.
They will be giving me a just in time training lesson on it and then maybe the pictures with the Mayor giving me the keys.

I'll be looking for a good size flag next week. Also will need to figure out a way to hang it where it looks good and a light to shine on it at night, it's the law and a good one.

This truck just gets cooler all the time.

Congrats. So how will the wife find out about it? You going to come screaming into the driveway with all the lights and sirens and hose down the barbeque?

I told last weekend at a family get together and she is alright with it. She even offered to ride me down to pick it up, but her faimily is getting together tomorrow and will not have time to take me. I think I may just show up there with it, Lights and siren on, they don't know about it yet.

That should impress the in-laws for sure. Be sure to take pictures.

For tyhe flag, you can use a length of wood dowel or conduit pipe cut to the width of the flag. Then get yourself a grommet kit and set them about 12-16" apart (depends on the size of the flag or course). You can use rope, zip ties, whatever ya like to fasten it to the rod/pipe, my preference is to use clips affixd to the rod/pipe so it looks better and is more permanent.

As far as hanging it from the ladder, run a line from each end up to the corner of your ladder, again I'd use clips for ease of mounting and good looks. And to keep the flag steady in a breeze you could either run lines to hook to the cab or weights.

And yes, I have done this before, just with a flag that could cover a house. Made a few monster banners as well.

Just got it home and the neighbor's are already stopping by to see if there is/was a fire and to offer any help.
I'm headed out to move it away from the house. just to make it look more like another truck. Then drive it to a wake for my wife's nephew.

Should be an interesting afternoon.
