I have a 51, 235 p/g engine that keeps breaking intake rocker arms. The head casting # 3835499 is suppose to be a 50-52, 235 head. I have found two 1 inch water holes in the head but not in block or head gasket. Maybe I have the wrong head for a p/g engine. That head gets darn hot and really smokes out of the valve cover after shutdown.

But I was wondering if you have a 235 splash engine, or a 235 full oil engine. Those engines are actually really different, and if you are mixing the head and block from the 2 different engine types that might be your problem.
I believe you could also get the pressed steel rockers and put them in instead of the cast iron rockers. It should be a direct swap.
Sorry for being vague, I'm a gmc guy and never really got into any of the chevy 6s.

1950-52 truck uses the same head 3835499 with a different block.
The valve spring for a PG is different. 1938-51 All (exc. PG) 2 1/8 O.L. x 31/32 I.D. 1950-51 Pass. w/ PG (painted w/ aluminum - L.H. coil.

Although Inliners call it a 216 head. I've been told, no way a 216 head will fit a 235. The bolt pattern is differnt. The engine 3692703 is listed as a 50-51, 235 p/g. This is a low pressure dipper engine. I'll check the spring coil. Thx guys.
