Ok. today I officially became stupid. For some reason I am having troubles ID'ing an engine that I was given because it is stuck. Next to the distributor in the typical 216 serial number location(I do know that this engine is a later Full pressure engine) is the following-

FII4H

the letters "II" are very clearly letter I's and not number 1's. That is all that is there. There is no other printing between there and the distributor.

Any Idea's. I have checked all over the resto packs. I know F for FLint, but what is the II4H?

1957 140 hp 235, truck application with manual transmission.

If that is all that is there, then.....

the info between the first letter F
and the last letter H,
is the production date, month and day.

What is the raised block casting number.
Something like 3837004 or 3836233.

I have seen that on other engines, like F57123H

But this Code is the letter F the letters II then 4 then the letter H

that is what was confusing me. no year date, and the only number is 4 anywhere on serial number pad.

I will get the casting number, the engine is in the barn, which is about 17 miles from where I am now.

The "II" are actually "11". The code breaks down as F-Flint Plant, II4 (actually 114) is January 14, H is the application. I've seen other engines stamped with I in place of 1, including my own. The manufacturers do not use I in their codes because of it can be confused with 1, same goes for O and 0. The H code is 1957 only.

Sorry, I messed up...
I changed my previous posting to month and day.
I think they started using month and day in 1957.

There should also be a date code on the block.
Can you post that info too.

Will do, It will probably be next monday though- SOrry for the delay going out of town for work, then father's day. So monday will be my first chance back at the Barn.

Don't worry about the year/month date thing, you know more than I do on it.
