any one know what this is? http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/Toste_bucket/66%20chevy%20C-30/0606100654a.jpg http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/Toste_bucket/66%20chevy%20C-30/0606100654.jpg its at the back of the valley. it lines up with the hole in the block ( i think the hole is where the distributors used to be put in?) what is it, what does it do, do i need it and can i get rid of it if i dont? thats my general approach to autos. lol. not always the best way, but ill admit that it makes me learn from my mistakes!

That is a deflector for the crankcase ventilation system. There is a road draft tube going in the hole by the dist. This system was used before the PCV system was put in in 1963. I suppose you could block it off & use a PCV valve.

hey thanks! i think ill just leave it be unless there is a real reason to change it. i prefer the breather caps without the pcv valves, think they detract from the look. do i need to clean it, or. . .i guess a better thing is to ask about the maintenance on it. how do i take care of it?

You should pull it & clean it. You must have the road draft tube in the hole by the dist. You have to have a breather cap on the oil filler tube in the front of the manifold.
