The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot '60-'66 Trucks Big Mirrors

I've got a '65 C10 that has quite a ways to go before I put it back on the road, but I was curious...I remember a lot of these trucks had the big mirrors on arms mounted to the doors. Now that I'm doing my restoration it appears those were not factory. Were they maybe an option? I still love that look instead of the puny, little factory ones.

What's everyone opinion?

I'm going with small round. My truck came with Big mirrors and the heavy duty rap around bumper, I have removed both.

My 1960 GMC was purchased new with "West Coast" mirrors, but I don't know if they were dealer or factory installed.

I didn't know they were called that even though I've heard of the term West Coast mirrors.

They're exactly the same. He said he bought them new over the counter for his '65 Chevy pick-up he was hauling his '33 Willys gasser with back when the truck was new, but he never got around to putting them on.

I'm probably going to shorten the arms a bit and put the on my Suburban. I think they'll go good with my dual factory spot lights.

I have yet to find an aftermarket set that look as good as some of the "higher priced" mirros that were OEM / dealer installled or aftermarket back in the day.

I found a set on Ebay that ended up very nice once I cleaned them up and installed new glass. Troll around there, a set may become available.

I'm glad to see others like the big mirrors also. I was hoping I wouldn't be a pariah.

I also have the big ones on mine and hope to clean them up or get new ones. I have found a few set's of NOS one's on ebay but I cant work anymore and didn't have any extra cash to buy them, but I do see them every now and then ether in set's of two or in sigels.

I had the big mirrors on my '63 when I got it. I got so used to the vision they give that I've always hated the little things you get on modern cars and trucks.

I read somewhere that a company named "West Coast" made mirrors back in the day, hence the label West Coast Mirrors.

Can't verify if this is legit though.

Mine has the big ones, but I'm putting the rectangular stock style on when I re-do the truck...the big ones are good for hauling, but get in the way sometimes.

I bought both the 6" round stock style and the 5x7 rectangle, the backsides with get primed and painted white as all the rest of the trim pieces-parts. depending on how much they "see" I'll decide whcih ones I'll keep on most of the time.
