My truck manuals seem to be more for the younger trucks than for my 48. I am wondering if there is a good diagram for the 'guts' that are inside my 48 doors.

I think there are some braces missing. And where would I get the stuff that is missing? When I figure out what should be there I will put an add in the parts are wanted forum.

See if the assembly manual for your truck is at the oldcarmanual project. Probably buy a door(s) and get them that way or check some of the vendors as well.

Best source for door view is the Master parts Catalog and the 47-50 specific cab manual (reproduced).

What I found was the front window guide had rusted or broken. While in Oklahoma last weekend (HOT) Justhorsenaround sold me a door with this guide in it. Now, I need to figure out how to get this into the door.

Any advice or experiences with this surgery?

Brad, what is the “47-49 cab specific manual”? Not sure I’ve ever seen one of those, and here I thought I had one of every thing in print for the 1950 AD truck.

The front window guide in my '49 GMC is also rusted/gone. Haha, just wasn't there. Now I know why the window doesn't go up. I've been looking around here for a door, and also wondering how to get that piece back in. Might it be easier to just swap doors?

Anybody have a fix?

There is a small glovebox size manual for 47-51 Cabs that illustrates how to shim, change weatherstrip, glass etc.
Look in the Jim Carter Catalog Item #LI540 They are $6-7$ as I recall. It is a handy little book with lots of pictures and tips.

In regards to your 49 door that piece is spot welded into place your best bet is a replacement door.

The door I bought from Justhorsenaround has bullet holes in it and a dent.

I agree with you Brad. I am not sure if I could position the guide in the right place for spot welding and make the window work.

Thanks guys. The door isn't very rusty at all, it's a shame to have to swap it. There's a fella around here with a few parts trucks, I'll go by and see if I can't get a good door cheap.
