How tall are the 8.25 x20 originals? Mine are not home right now to measure.

Your tech tip article on big bolt tires led me to look at modern 19.5 rims, but you thought they might look small on a two ton. I was talking to the guys at Les Schwab and there is a profile that could be as tall as 41 inches on a 19.5 rim. Do you know how wide a tire one could get away with for the duals on the rear? If you use standard GM 10 lug 19.5" wheels as far as I know they only come 6" wide, which then pretty much limits you to a tire as large as a 8R19.5.
I suppose having custom wider rims made is an option. I would try to get a good idea how it would all look and fit and what it would cost before taking that path.
I still think original 20" wheels and tires are the best option for most folks who won't be taking long road trips and regularly hauling stuff. Then for those who want a more modern truck the 22.5" wheels compliment the other changes (axles, gears, brakes, more power).
The 19.5" wheels if they fit over the drums could be a cheap (used tires and wheels) way to get a truck on the road, may run slower and look funny, but driving is better than sitting on blocks in the driveway.
