I've got what looks like remnants of a cardboard looking strap left on one of the studs.
Is it safe to assume I need an insulator like thing that's on the Battery gauge?
There's not enough detail shown in the Assembly Manual (sect 12, plate 12.02) for me to know exactly. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 | Here is a pic of the back of mine. Both pads are paper. The brass studs are from the gas gauge. pic 1 Pic 2 Hopefully a sparky can post up on what you can use. What are you using for an oil gauge on your 235, 30lb or 60lb? My 50 has a 235 but the oil gauge is a 30lbr. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 2,644 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 2,644 | Thanks Gus, That's just what I needed to see. Now it would be nice if I could make one of those things out of something readily available... like a cereal box. I broke down and bought a new 60 lb. oil pressure gauge. I considered having my 30 lb. modified but by the time I paid for postage and the service it wasn't worth it. I did have to re-face all of my gauges so they all matched. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 2,644 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 2,644 | Thanks Denny, as usual you always seem to know all about the obscure electronics stuff. The stuff from Amazon is only .005" thick, The stuff from Professional Plastics is $60 and the tubesandmore is out of stock.
Isn't there a commonly available material that can be used? If it weren't for the way the thing folds and sticks up between the posts I'd just use an insulating washer.
Or maybe I'm just overthinking this. It sucks when you mess with things you don't understand. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | Woody - the only reason to have it stick up in the middle is to be original and have a "fail-safe" feature .... you could cut some pieces of thin neoprene to make up a piece like that - or just use the plastic washers and make sure the wires lay right and stay tight [motto from avionics days ] Bill | | | | | Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 2,644 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 2,644 | Woody - just use the plastic washers and make sure the wires lay right and stay tight [motto from avionics days ] Bill I can do that... I kind of figured that was the reason for it being that way but one thing I've learned in my 60+ years is to never make assumptions, especially with things you don't fully understand. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 | Woody,
I looked yesterday and could not find it but one of the vendors sell all this stuff as a kit I bought one for my own truck it was 8-9 bucks. I will look again tonight it even comes with the red warning label in two versions one early and one late.

While we're on this subject, that red warning tag indicates that the wire from the sending unit should only be hooked up to one of those posts or the gauge will be damaged.
Since the tag was missing on mine how do I know which post to hook to? | | |
