Iam a new guy to your site I mostly work on 67-72 chevys but I came across this 65 GMC and had to have it. They told me it was a 1/2 ton but it has leaf springs and six lugs.Can anyone help me out here

when searching for a frame for my 65 4x4 project I ran into a gmc frame that was 2 wheel drive with leafs. the owner said that it was an option back then. other than that only 4x4 came with leafs. half tons had 6 lugs,

'60-'66 Chevy light-duty trucks had trailing arms/coils...GMC trucks of the same years had leafs.

I'm trying really hard to get over my ignorance regarding these trucks! Once again, here's another chance for you guys to help.

Tony, you say that the Chevies had trailing arms and coils while the GMCs had leafs.

So I found out what a leaf was:

Not sure about the trailing arm and coil. Is it what's pictured here running along either side of the drive shaft:

If the GMCs don't have these arms, they would have more room for an S10-style long skinny gas tank beside the drive shaft. Right?

Am I right that the GMCs don't have these arms, or am I still confused?

Yes, that is what is pictured in the 2nd link.

I am not one to suggest putting a fuel cell between the frame rail and the drive shaft.

You are correct, '60-'66 GMC light-duty trucks did not have trailing arms.

Thanks, 4-5-6. At least that gives me another option for gas tanks.

read somewhere, I thought on this forum, that Chevys came stock with coils and leafs were an option. GMCs came with leafs as standard and coil could be had as an option. I have leafs on my C10 and it rides great. Yes it looks like there is enough room for a tank inside the frame.
