I have a '46 2-ton and am trying to work through the brakes. Can some one tell me where to get the tool that takes the nut off the back hub after pulling the axle? It looks like a hugh socket with 6 points on it and about 3" diameter. Thanks

Any OTC dealer should have it or be able to get one. Judging from the size you give, OTC part #1906 should be the right one.

OTC Owatonna Tool Company. They manufacture specialty service tools, mostly suspension and driveline tools, but also A/C and electrical repair tools, too. Many car parts stores carry their tools, Napa is a good place to check. If you have a local repair shop or car dealer nearby, you might see when their tool dealer (Snap-On, Mac, Matco) comes around. Sometimes those dealers also sell OTC as a lower cost alternative or line expansion (for tools they don't manufacture themselves), if you don't have a parts store that carries OTC.

If it is indeed a 3", this is what they look like and about as good as price as you can find. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...IKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0CV9FBFJ5WNEQPF6R5H6 Carefully measure 2 opposite flat sides of the nut before you order.

when I was doing road repairs for a truck shop I would take a large steel chisel and put one side on the flat of the nut and the other against the hub, turn the wheel and the nut comes off.You probably have 2 nuts, one sets the bearing preload and the outer one is a lock nut

And sometimes there is a locking ring between the 2 nuts, with tabs to bend over the flats of the outside nut keeping it from backing off. Check it out first and bend the tabs up, makes removing the outer nut a lot easier. These sockets are not cheap and are usually 3/4" drive, so measure carefully. I have got a drawer full of them if you lived closer you could just borrow one.
