Well, every now and then, the blind pig DOES find the acorn!
A couple months ago, I did a post on here looking for a copy of the original template to locate the spot light brackets, and someone on here hooked me up with a copy of the template.
Two weeks later, I lucked into a deal and ended up with a very nice driver's side spotlight and brackets--inner and outer brackets.
I got it mounted on my '62 Suburban, and started looking around on ebay for the passenger side of brackets. (When you buy vintage spot lights, you're really buying the brackets).
Found a guy on ebay, who knew a guy, and this week a set of very rare, OE passenger-side spot light brackets showed up. So now I'll have a set of factory spots on the Suburban.
And while all this was happening, a good friend of mine called and said "I've got a set of NOS west coast mirrors that I bought for my '65 Chevy truck back in '65, but never put them on. You can have 'em."
They're stainless construction, and are the definition of "mint" condition.
Both of these additions will look good on the truck, and even better, they'll make the truck more functional.

The guy in the first link seems to have had a problem with his template. I guess I got lucky--the one a member sent to me was spot-on and perfect.
I ran into that same "extra" piece of metal during the drilling process.

My biggest challenge was figuring out how to take apart the spot light to slide it through the hole.

Now I'm looking for an S6 spot light with a black handle. I haven't checked to see if Unity still sells them with the short black plastic handle.

Unity does not carry the short handle, it will have to come from an original spotlight sold by GM. It appears all GM spotlights had the same short handle whether for a Chevy truck or a Buick. There was also a short Ivory handle that supposedly came with GMC spotlights.

Be sure to check for the correct overall length. The Unity "A" length I have mounted in a 141L bracket is 14 1/4" overall from the forward end of the headpost housing to the back of the switch cap. Unity measures differently, (center to center) from the center of headpost to center of handle. The "A" length center to center is 12". Some early spec sheets list the "K" length instead, which is 1/2" longer at 12 1/2" c-c.

The light I have now is a GMC, and it had a black handle. There's no reason to think this isn't the original handle. The guy I bought it from let this one go because he found an NOS GMC light, to replace the very nice light he sold me.
