Want 4 bbl. intake, Stovebolt headers, cam and new carb. No headwork, but am assuming overbore will be needed when I get it unstuck. Questions:
1. Which carb CFM?
2. Which cam (Rear is 2.70 with Turbo 350, maybe 3.08 later)
Looking for most power all around, but would definitely love a nice bumpy idle, too. Is it possible?

That bumpy idle will turn into shake & die when you put it in drive or reverse. You say you want advice but this is not the kind you want to hear but I can,t help it. This is not the kind of stuff to put on a credit card. If you can,t afford it you should do a little at a time & save up till you can. Just my 2cents cash worth.

Both have excellent advice about which grinds work best in appropriate applicaions. Tell them just what you posted here and they can advise you if you feel the need to replace your stock unit. | | |

Wrenchbender is right about the idle, its a shake and vibrate instead of the V-8 style rumble. As far running goes, it might be faster then the stock cam, but I have to run the engine higher rpm to feel it. To off set the rough idle, I went with a set of Rhoads bleed down lifters. They do not fully pump up till 2500 rpm, so at idle, a big cam idles much smoother. Now, my big cam idles with more vacuum (19") then my stock one (18.5") did. With what I spent on lifters and cam, the price per seat of pants feel was pretty high. A stock cam will always feel better at low rpm driving.
It all comes back to how much are willing to give up and put up with! Joe | | |
