I have a question for all.My Loadmaster 2 ton has Hydrovac brakes.The things simply will not work without a total replace or rebuild.Can I remove the Hydrovac and just go with regular brakes(new master cylinder,lines etc...)I know I will have a decrease in brake capacity but I will not be pulling excessive loads.Also the two speed axle is not working.Can I swap out the old axle with a late model with electric two speed? Thanks for any and all responses.

If you were to leave the hydrovac out of your brake system, you would have no decrease in brake capacity, you would have to generate more pressure with your foot however, The hydrovac can be rebuilt, and you can find them rebuilt on "E" bay among others, as for the rear axle, yes you can swap it for one with an electic two speed, but why don't you determine what is wrong with the one you have and repair that? | | | | | Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 79 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 79 | Thanks for the info.Can you reccomend a source for the Hydrovac rebuild. Thats what I was afraid of.Again can anyone tell me where I can send the unit for rebuild? Also the 2speed valve located in the cab where is the low range located ,to the right or left? The bracket nor handle is not marked.Please excuse my ignorance on this stuff as it is kinda new to me.

On one of my 46s low speed is to the right on the dash control, but that is a different style of controller than a 48 would use, seeing as how you need vacuum to shift into high range you should always park in low. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,144 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,144 | Jim Carter lists rebuilt hydrovacs on his website at the price I hope that includes a later refundable core charge. I believe 48 bigtrucks found hydrovac unit on the shelf at carquest a while back. There are also offering rebuild services in hemmings motor news.
