I was reading the Blue dot taillight thread and was going to revive it, but decided my question probably warranted a new thread.

My '46 came with 2 different tail lights. The driver side is the traditional tail light with the blue dot. It appears to have the taillight bulb changeover bracket ( Jim Carter #: LG 290) as it has the 2 smaller incandescent bulbs. The passenger side is a circular Do-ray "STOP" light with one larger (~2" long) bulb (I think it is an 1129).

After reading the blue dot thread I was concerned and decided to give the LED lights a try in the driver's side tail light. I have the 6V system and so was thinking of trying these LED lights posted by Bill in the aforementioned thread, or something similar. Does anyone have any experience with LEDs in these taillights?

The bulb in the passenger side circular Do-ray is blown, so I will track down a cheap incandescent before deciding if I'm going to try an LED there as well.

Way better prices! I see the difference between the lights, but I wonder if the price is really reflective (get it?) of the price difference?

I bought the Highspeed Motors LED and was very disappointed. I've not seen an LED set up that I'm happy with yet. You don't need to buy any bracket. If you slightly bend the stock bracket half way between the two sockets you'll have enough clearance to put a 6cp #87 in the lower socket for your taillight and an 1129 21cp bulb in the upper for your stop light. Both are on (at least on my 38) for the stop light making 27cp which is pretty bright.

I just picked up a couple incandescent bulbs from Napa and I think for my setup, I don't need to go LED yet. Only the driver's side light up as a running light. There is an issue with brightness for stopping with that tail light (mentioned in the other thread), but having the STOP light on the passenger side should keep me and those following me safe for now. Therefore, the only advantage I can see at the moment for LEDs is the reduced power draw, which I'll have to revisit in the future if I have a problem with headlight dimming or something.

I was trying to put them behind 39 ford lenses. I then bought new lenses with about 35 bulbs. Wow they really lite up. Make sure what you are buying before spending the $ Listen to someone that has usaed the brandyou are buying. Some of the ones by super-bright look good. I am going to need somthing for the front turn/running lights.

I just noticed your location. What part of the sunflower state do you hale from?

I have recently moved to Manhattan; do you know any Stovebolt enthusiasts in the area?
