trucks been sitting outside for several years (covered). cleaned her up, bought a rebuilt carb, new w/p, plugs , etc.
cranks good, put new crimp connectors on coil and yellow wire on solinoid.
useing finger controled remote starter with key in on position and there is no spark from coil when i hold it near motor metal.
if i run a new yellow wire from coil to solinoid would that be good thing or is there something else i should look at ?
thanks in advance ...

Put a new set of points & condenser in it, and adjust the gap to about .020". Be sure you're getting voltage to the + terminal of the coil by checking with a test light, not a digital voltmeter.

no spark is going to the distributor from the coil ...
that is my problem.
i tested by exposeing the distributor end of the coil wire twithin 1/8 " of metal on the motor.
remote cranked the engine and .... no spark.

The points tell the plug wires to spark. If I understand what you are trying to say your test was, there would be no "spark". The juice from the coil to the distributor is constant and the points "break" it. The coil plug wire would not spark under the condition described.

The condenser stores that juice for the extra oomph to the plugs. My bet is on the points and/or the condenser as Hotrodlincoln says. You could still have a bad coil and that can be tested with a volt/ohm meter. I did find this bench test for automotive coils.

Run a separate wire from the battery to the + side of the coil after doing the bench test above. That will take the ignition switch out of the equation. If/when it starts you will have to pull that wire to shut it down so don't attach it permanently.

No, I don't think so. Just a little more guidance.
