on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 725 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 725 | Ok, I've searched and read but nowhere can I find info relating to my problem. Here goes, I ordered and received a master booster combo for my 1971 C10 so I could convert it to power brakes. It will not mount without "something" else. It will take either some kind of bracket or major modification to the firewall. There are 4 studs coming through the firewall from the pedal cluster inside the cab under the dash. The old non-power master is centered on and mounts to the bottom pair. The hole for the brake rod is between them. The new master/booster also has 4 studs equally spaced around a center rod and hole. See the problem? Has anyone run into this before?
Everyone seems to sell the same master/booster combo for a 1971, even down to using the same part number!
I have got to be missing something, either in my head or on my truck!
I thought it was supposed to be almost a bolt-on to do power brakes on the 1971s. What have I done wrong?
Any suggestions or help will greatly appreciated!
best wishes,

I would suggest getting the booster and master cylinder from the local parts store, getting oem style replacement parts, especially since it was a factory option. That will ensure that parts are correct.

That is exactly what I did! I think that there must be some kind of bracket between the Bendix booster and the firewall. Although what I have is supposed to be rebuilt OEM, the brake rod with the ring in the end seems quite a bit short. Maybe the Power Brake option had a different pedal. What you say is good advice and the way I approach most parts buying.
thanks,

From what I remember the booster doesn't bolt directly to the firewall with a rod to the pedal. I don't think that part comes with a rebuilt booster. You will probably be better off getting an an aftermarket unit unless you can find this additional hardware. Fred

I have a New Bendix master/booster combo ready to go but no brackets. I understand that you can use '73-'87 brackets and links with some modification. I have a couple of places to look tomorrow, because for the first time doing this conversion I'd like to stick with all factory parts for the correct year. There's always Pirate Jack's as a last resort. I'll post what I find out.
