Still, to the original question, I'd like to know too if there is any reason you can't run solids in a block originally equiupped with hydraulics, i.e. are they the same diameter, to you need different pushrods? I've heard that unless you can find a set of NOS lifters that your better off with solids.

The valve clearance would have to be run at .004" or so to run solids on a hydraulic shaft, and adjusted about once a week otherwise. There's a major difference in the lobe shape on a solid lifter shaft.

After a certain year, all the blocks were bored for the oil gallery, whether or not the hydraulic lifters were used. It would have made no sense at all from a manufacturing standpoint to have two different lifter bore sizes.

Same thing. 1972 Chevy c10 Cheyenne SuperIn the Gallery Forum | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 1,107 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 1,107 | when i had my 59 built the engine guy gave me hydraulic lifters. i told him i wanted solids. he said he'd have to change the cam to a solid lift cam. after he gave me the engine back with the correct cam he gave me the lifters and they were solids but the milk can type. the lifters are the same od but the hydraulics and the solid with the annual are shorter thus the longer rods. there are two rod lengths 10 9/16th and 11 1/4qtr.
