I need to check out the clutch on my 1950 1/2 ton. I assume it need to drop the entire tranny/clutch to replace the pressure plate? Is there help out there to the procedure of doing this? I need step by step directions if possible.
Thanks!

Good question. Long answer. Yes the trans will have to come out. I presume you have an original driveline. If so you will have to disconnect the ball housing at the rear of the trans.
This could be a long answer so my best advice to you is to get the shop manual. Step by step is almost in there.
In that book they say to remove the trans through the floor. Ain't easy! I went the other route. I undid the trans mount and undid the crossmember (4 bolts each side). Remove the cross member and then let the torque tube down to the floor after undoing the ball housing and u-joint. WARNING! BE CAREFUL with the torque tube. Mine was under tension and it could come down with a force.
When you get the clutch out check to see if the flywheel is scored and if so get it refaced.
Its not a hard job overall but a long job IMO especially if you are lying on the floor doing it.
Good luck!

I do have the manual, and yes, it is all original. I would assume I need to drain all fluids first and then I will start with the driveline. I have time and I just want it where I can see it and see what kind of repair I'm going to need.
Thanks

You can drain the trans fluids but there won't be much in there. Otherwise it will make a mess. Don't worry about the differential fluids obviously.

PLEASE don't use the word "obviously"! You make a huge assumption of my knowledge of this stuff. I did take on this project because of it's simplicity and it's the obvious questions I need answered. Thank you!

Here's a link that might help. It's an install with pics, so you'll at least see what you're into...
