Howdy inliners!

Just curious, how do glass pack dimensions affect the overall volume of your exhaust? In case you'r wondering, yes, I want my exhaust louder. Why? Well, for one thing, it osunds cool. But also, I just had the coolest picture in my head.

This guy I know from school (kind of a dee eye see kay) was sitting behind me at a red. HE was in some little Honda CRX (you know, the hatchback model) with one of those "wet fart" mufflers. HE's revving it up and all that jazz. And we make the turn and he goes on driving like the little pee-are-eye-see-kay that he is and cutting people off and speeding in aschool zone and all that.

Well, I thought later about how I'll be rebuilding the exhaust and how cool it would be to go back to today's scene. With him revving the fart can, if I had my more reliable carb on with headers and cherrybombs, I'd have loved to open the throttle a bit and.... you know.... mute out his farts. Basically.

Not just a little rev rev, but WAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! For like 5 whole seconds.

Anyone else been in this situation?

They come in different lengths and yes the shorter, the louder plus they get louder as the glass wears out. If you really want to get his attention try one of these.

Probably not what you wanna hear but, better to let a-holes like that just be a-holes all by themselves. You're not gonna change those idiots or even get 'em ticked off. They don't "get" old trucks and cars, nor do they want to.
So, you just play it cool, sittin' in your cool truck, not giving a F that he even exists.
Keep working on your truck and it'll be attracting attention long after those Hondas are beat up and sittin' in the boneyard.

New cars don't go to boneyards anymore, or get set in a farmers barn and forgotton for 40 years. They go right to the shredder. Around here (St. Louis area) old yards are selling off as quick as they can. I see 2 trucks a day going to the shredder. Price of scrap steel is high, and they are gonna make a buck. 50 years from now no one will be rebuilding 2006 cars, cause there won't be any to rebuild.

Get your parts while you can. They're even shredding the old classsics as well.

Big block and fenderwell headers, ya know-old school gasser style.

i'm for the cut outs...just because a 6 with open headers is a beautiful thing. over 3500-4000 they start to sound a bit like a chain saw...but, otherwise...muwahahaha.

i turned a few heads at my graduation party when i lit up the 292 with open long tubes...and this is with a family who is hardcore harleys and V8's...soo..yeah.

plus, then you can kinda hide the sound of your distinctive 6, with a longer 'pack.

just a thought.

Man, straight pipe would be awesome... but I don't trust electrical kits on my exhaust.... especially with my driving I tend to get a little experimental on sharp turns and dirt roads.

I don't suppose there'd be a way to mechanicaly rig an exhaust "detour" device?

I kinda like the cutout idea, and yes you can manually rig one. run it like a choke cable...
the cutout can be made in house or you could probably buy one without electronics. Plus an inline six w/out mufflers sounds like a ups truck goin' mach five- cool!

Choke cable... that's a good idea! I was thinking rods and linkages, I need to get my head out of 1967 and into 1969 (or whenever they started using cables over linkages).
