The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Doors Door won't open

After hearing a rattle inside the passenger door a few weeks ago (almost as if a big bolt was knocking around loose in the bottom), the passenger side door will now open only about twelve inches and then stop. It closes just fine, and it's not pinching on the inside edge when it opens.

I did a search on the site, and couldn't find anything to get me started. Before I start messing with hinges and such, does anyone have an idea about what may be happening?

sounds like maybe a bolt came loose from one of the hinges on the door side, might start by trying to get a peak at them

Another possibility would be the "check" spring, they do break and a piece is jambed between the hinge and hinge pocketd? I'd stick a small magnet into the pocket and fish around or high pressure air.

I was a cruise-in last night, and another Stovebolter mentioned the check spring. The idea regarding the magnet is a good one --I'm going to go the parts store this weekend and get one of those magnets on an extension rod and see what comes up.
