What is the maximum I can lower it by cutting the coil springs (with out anything binding up) and how many coils do I cut in the front and how many do I cut in the rear to make it set level?
Thanks for all the help!!! | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 . | | . Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 | Snip a little and try it, then repeat if need be. No need to cut it all at once and find you've gone to far.. But, Are you sure cutting the coils is even a good idea? http://www.eatonsprings.com/CuttingCoilSprings.htmlGrigg | | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,756 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,756 | Heck, cut them all...The rid will be rough but it will look cool/
Cutting coils is a poor way to lower the truck. .buy new springs or lower it more convential ways. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 | As Grigg and gazim have already said, cutting springs is,at best a poor way to lower a vehicle. Chopping springs destroys the progressive nature of the coil. I did it a while back and ruined the ride on my car.
Sure it looked great, but rode like a bag of bolts.
I'm pretty sure someone, somewhere does pre-made lowered springs specifically for your truck. 1950 Chevy Advance Design 3100 in ScotlandIn the Stovebolt GalleryMore pix on Flickr. A lot of work, but then you dont want to overdo it.By the way spring steel is very hard, and I used a small angle grinder to cut mine. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,756 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,756 | Try contacting eaton spring as Gred sugested. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,756 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,756 | OK lets go one step further. However since the number of active coils directly affects the ride quality as dictated by the spring formula and as everyone points out. My recommendation is not to do it and buy the right springs.
Jock says rides like a bag of bolts, I put it more akin a lumber wagon.
