O.K. How does the front turn signal operate. Let me be clearer, when you have the headlights on does the turn signal light also light up. You see when I went to replace the lightbulbs they had 1157 on them so I assume they lights were two function on with the headlights and then flashing went you are signaling for a turn.I installed new bulbs but they only work when I signal for turning. Should I have purchased 1156 bulbs?

You didn't say what year you have, but up to 68 the parking lights only come on when the light switch is pulled part way out. 68 up comes on with the headlights. With a 2 contact socket you must use a 2 contact bulb.

Yes, I found the problem.
The switch is a two stage in operation. Pull it half way and the driving lights come on. Pull it all the way and the headlights come on.

Lucky, the problem is you calling them "driving" lights, the main lights are the "driving" lights, the others are actually called parking lights, only meant to be on when NOT driving

if you want the lights to be like the "modern" setup, it's simple to add a wire to change them to be on all the time - see here, and note then they'd be called running lights

I will do that hook-up to my lights. I also want to install relays to the headlights.
