some pay $35.00 at a junkyard for a 4 or 6 cylinder T5 out of an S10 or astro van.
others pay $250.00 on ebay.
is it brand spanking new??

call around to some tranny shops and ask what they would charge for a T5 out of a camaro to completely (all new bearings and synchro kit stuff) rebuild that you would just walk in and drop off??? world class or NON world class..
then ask them if they have a spare S10 housing for sale, in good rebuildable shape??
the camaro gears are for V8 power.

a hybrid has a 26 spline input shaft, like the camaro's. uses a corvette or camaro clutch. it can handle more HP but for a 235 , i would not worry to much. a regular T5 astro or S10 would work fine. it's what else you do that makes the difference. a matching game as best suited for the drivers needs.

The advantage, as Caroline's Truck says, is higher HP.

Another advantage to a camaro w/c box with s-10 tail shaft that has the shifter box in the right spot, is the gear ratios. A truck tranny has lower 1st gear and o/d, the car tranny will have a higher 1st gear and o/d. For example, maybe 1st from a truck is 3.72 and from the car its 2.35, fifth of .78 in the truck and .62 in the car tranny.

I recently called a tranny shop to get my t-5 rebuilt and they quoted me $900. I'm gonna buy a rebuild kit for $125, some upgrade parts (rear bearing retainer), and spend the difference on something else I can't do myself.

Is it a World Class box or non World Class? If it's a rebuilt WC, that's a decent price.
Personally, I'd try to find a good used one, WC or otherwise. WC's are not that easy to come by but, I did find one here in San Diego for $150. I've put plenty of miles on it since I installed in Fall 2004.
A good boneyard here is down by Coors Amphitheatre. It's called El Pulpo - Pick Your Part. They have 1/2 price weekends fairly regularly and I've seen plenty of T5's whether in S10 or Camaro.
What's this going in anyways?

looks like it's a 1954 3100, mugs

Hybrids can be either world class or non world class. I almost believe that most are NON world class trannys.

the rear end drive ratio is the key factor and jack has not mentioned what he's doing for the final drive ratio. will he tow, will it be for show... heaven forbid, will it be a driver, a work truck or just pleasure???
all meant for the rear end question? it's all a true package deal. go faster on the freeways means you gotta stop also.
it's drivability.
i gotta say this, if he goes the route of a newly rebuilt tranny rather than a junk yard find (w/ very low miles ...... ha ha ha ... some are lucky w/ great finds) he'll never have to mess w/ that box again. ok maybe almost never...

good parts hunting and driving

Mugsy. I was away from the E- Machine for a bit. I'm going to check out the junk yard you were talking about. I'm not doing anything show I just want a driver that is safe reliable etc. It is a part time daily driver depending on the surf conditions. So as soon as poss I want to find the rear end trans etc. and get to work, just takes awhile to gather all the info so I don't do something I'll regret later. Thanx,
Jack

Welcome summit to the Stovebolt Page! And welcome neighbor! I'm from Sullivan. There are folks on here from Danville, Jacksonville, Franklin, White Heath - I can't remember them all. The Central Illinois 'bolters should get together. wink
