Does anyone know a secret to installing the headliner? I have the rear section in just fine but the front just doesn't want to go into place in the divider. I'm ready to put shag carpet on the roof! Also, is the only thing that holds the harmonic balancer on the square key? I see two bolt holes that go nowhere and I think they are for a puller? Thanks in advance for the help! Bob

when I did mine I put the front in first with the divider. It was still a bear to get in.

Those 2 holes in the balancer are for a puller as you said, the balancer is a press fit. Some have drilled and tapped the crank snout for a bolt to make sure it doesn't come off.

Bob, your interior question should have been posted in Interiors and your engine question should have been posted in Engine and Driveline. It makes it hard to move a post to the right place when there are two questions that go to different places.

Don't feel bad about the spanking; we all get one from papa Charlie once in awhile.

But all that aside Bob. The balancer is a light press fit. You have to conceder that all of the thrust on the pulley is radial not axial so it doesn't take much to keep it on the crank.
A lot of the guys just drive the balancer on with a persuader and a block of wood. I'm not nuts about that method because of the chance of damaging the rubber support cushion between the hub and balance ring. A better method but one that requires a bit more work is to drill and tap the crank (7/16-20NF)and use a “Harmonic Balancer Installer” which pulls the balancer hub up against the stop on the crank snout. You can borrow the installers from places like AutoZone. As fur as the headliner goes, can’t help ya there, I taint been thru that exercise yet. It’s funny, but for every one that says it’s a bear, I hear from another that says it’s a piece of cake. Knowing all the trouble I make for myself over the simplest of tasks, I’m sure that I’m in for a battle when I get around to the headliner.
