Does anyome have a reference to check bellhousing casting numbers? I'm trying to figure out what I have here. It's cast iron and has the 50's era crossmember mounts cast in.

The casting number is: 3733373
The date code(?)looks like: L 1 6
Other marks: GM1

I'm really trying to determine what year this is and whether it's a truck or passenger car bell housing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hy Old Gold, I could not find that number in my books from 55-59, I'm assuming from the date code it was made in 56. Quite often casting numbers are not the same as part numbers. Could you give us some more clues, is it a V8 or 6 housing, does it have an angled mounting surface or is the mount surface parallel to the ground, is there one hole in each mount pad or two?

Can you post a picture? That might help as well. I think 3B is on the right track that it is a '56 casting. Possibly November 1 1956. Hmmm, that would actually make it a '57 part.

Thanks for your help guys. It's for a V8. The mounting pad surfaces are slightly angled and there is only one bolt hole in each mounting pad. Does that help at all? I will try to post a pic tomorrow.

Thanks chevyb! I was hoping that was the case, 'cause that's what I need! Can I ask where you found your info? Thanks again.
