I have a 49 Chevy ½ ton truck that my brother-in-law and I recently worked on. We took off the manual transmission and all of the linkages. We encountered a problem when we went back to reassembling the clutch. While the transmission shifts gears normally, my problem is that the actual clutch pedal wobbles when I press it with my foot. It does not press in straight. It feels flimsy. There seems to be some play where the clutch shaft goes through the floorboard. Am I missing a bushing or something? I hope that I am explaining myself? Has anyone had this problem before? Like I said earlier, any help would be appreciated. | | |
#62637 07/06/2006 11:26 PM | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 234 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2000 Posts: 234 | There is indeed a bushing between the clutch pedal and the shaft - and possibly it's fallen out or disintegrated over the years. Replacements available through the usual parts suppliers.
There's also a spring that goes between the clip at the end of the shaft and the pedal, and I know mine tried to make a getaway when disassembled.
Finally the pedal itself has an adjustment bolt, be sure that's tight too.
