For helping keep this great

on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jun 2003 Posts: 54 Member | | Member Joined: Jun 2003 Posts: 54 | The 61 C20 has the original 4.57:1 rear end. My speedo is not working but it seems to run fairly smooth at around 50-55mph. Any higher and it sounds as if it is straining. Any thoughts on top cruising speed for this setup? Thanks!

Assuming you have a 1:1 final drive ratio tranny, you're probably taching at 2900-3100 rpm @ 55mph, depending on tire size. I've been pushing my 292 at 60mph since I've owned it but, I don't dig the gas mileage! Before the swap 4.57 gears with 29" tires 60 mph was 3,000 rpm.
Your 62 should have a wide enough differential to swap out for a newer 14 bolt with 3.73 or 3.42 gears.
