Found this post on another board and thought I'd post it here for anyone interested.

That is interesting but it makes the "gas gauge" voltage reducer offered by Classic Parts for $6 seem like a good deal. I do not have any trouble correctly running wires but beyond that my knowledge of any electrical or electronics is very limited. Does the Classic Parts piece work well? It does not appear to be a Runtz type unit.

That CP reducer is just a resistor but it probably works fine for the gas guage. The cheapest "runtz" I could find was at Speedway and they go for around $17.

I looked briefly at the thread but without a simple schematic drawing found it difficult to follow what he was trying to say in the text. A schematic to me is like a picture, i.e., it says a thousand words. I guess I’m just one of those people that understands a graphic better than I do the English language.

I wholeheartedly agree with you, but I think the post was probably aimed at the 90% or so of builders who do not have an electronics background and a schematic would look like some kind of convoluted road map to them.
