I am looking to build a replica Open Express bed for a 1946 Chevrolet 1-1/2 ton truck. These are the rare single axle rear wheel trucks with 20" wheels and a 9ft long step side bed. I need as many measurements and pictures of one as possible. Do any of you know anyone who has a truck that I could get measurements from? I'm not sure how many years they made this bed style, but I think they range from 1935 -1940 or so. Jason 713 817 8997

Hi Jason!

I have a spec booklet for 1946 trucks that give dimensions for, what I think you're looking for. I scanned the page but it doesn't come out so that you can see the numbers. At any rate, if you contacted the GM Vintage dept. and asked for a 'spec' booklet for 1946 I think you'd find it useful. They do charge for them though.
Good luck with the project.

You may also want to consider Reo and Diamond T in your research as thry both made heavy duty "pickups" such as you describe.

Jason and 46Canopy

The document that 46Canopy just posted is the one that I was referring to. Good stuff!! It shows a 1 1/2ton, pickup style. Should provide you with good ideas!

What kind of fenders where on the dually shown on the above link. Did they build them unique for that style of truck? If so what years were they manufactured? Thanks
