The doctor is in favor of returning his 41 to origional condition. It now has a 56 235. The 216 runs without any abnormal noise. The plan is to take the 216 straight to my old machinest guy to have him swap out the cast iron pistons and babbit rods with insert rods and aluminum pistons. What I need is a info on paint for the block and heads. I could realy use some pictures of the engine as it was in 1941. Also the 216 has floor mount starter pedal, did this truck ever have a floor mount starter pedal?

This is what it looks like on the engine. As far as the floor starter, everything had a floor starter up until 54(?)

The engine pick is great 46 but I think tiny is right. lol Earl would be proud. lol All kidding aside ty for the pic. Anyone else have pics of a complete origional engine from 1941? I want to see fuel pump, sedement bowl (if app.) the way the fuel lines ran. You know all the stuff that makes it a 41. Actually I am thinking of buing a chevy truck restore book, just for the pics.

My 33 is painted the same color as the picture, but it is wrong. The Filling Station in Lebanon, Oregon and Chevs of the Forties are the only places I know of that have the correct color. Check the VCCA site; they are really into correct restorations.

There were optional add-on sediment bulb style filters that were either attached to the carb or a metal fuel line was cut so that the filter was behind the horn and over the manifolds. And yes, the 6v starter for trucks was always a foot start. Makes it harder for people to take off with your truck. Starters and generators, IIRC, should be black.

All the masking is still in place in the pic...As far as plugs go, I figured new paint was a good excuse for new plugs....I masked off the number stamp site, the fuel pump mount, dizzy hole etc...the paint was about 10 mins old in the pic..the fan, etc will be pulled and painted later....

Your water pump has one of the replacment cast pulleys I have been seeing lately that has the hub turned down to small.
I just installed one of these, I rapped the hub with thin card board to center the fan while it was tightened.

This is a 1953 216 original engine, fan and as far as I know the original pulley. When I got the truck (2002) the last registration sticker on the plates was 1977. I wouldn't think it would have had a replacement pulley.

Not trying to rattle you chain 46, just messing with you although I've never seen painted acorn nuts & washers.

How about the oil filler tube and the bell housing? I did an engine on a 54 vette (blue flame) it looked like the one 46 posted. Rut Row scoobie! Me thinks I now have differing opinions. HUMMMMMMMMMMM?!?!

All I did is order the paint from Jim Carter and spray it on...if it is the wrong color, I would be bummed out. But not bummed out enough to start over and repaint.
Oil filler tube was black. Mine still had a pile of black paint on it.
Bell housing...if you check the suppliers, many sell a cast iron black for the tranny and bell housing...I did mine in black.

Acorn nuts, both manifolds, gasket edges, oil filler cap on post '48's, bellhousing, dipstick, even the bracket from the water pump to generator. The whole shebang was assembled before painting.
Black items include the draft tube, distributor, coil, fan blade, generator, starter, foot starter assembly, and I'm probably forgetting something off the top of my head. "Thriftmaster" was also painted on the valve cover in yellow with a stencil, not the decal like the vendors sell.
Although you'll get disagreements, the 4-speed tranny in my '51 was painted black. It had some factory inspection marks that were on top of what was left of the paint.
Granted the paint wore or burned off some of these items pretty quickly, like the exhaust manifold, gasket edges, and acorn nuts.

The Filling Station and Chev's of the 40's carry the correct color. The gray from Bill Hirsch and some other vendors is too light. I had my local paint jobber match the color to an NOS timing gear cover I had.
