I see an engine for sale locally. I just bought a '49 Chevy pickup with a 216. I'm thinking about buying this for a future project to replace the 216. This is a '57 model motor. Looking for comments and or suggestions.

I would try to get it for about $300. That is about the going rate unless it is a recent rebuild. Get an adapter plate from Pre68dave and use the 216 water pump. Front engine plate will have to be drilled to mount up to the old motor mount location. Pretty much down hill from there. Good luck. cool

Hy Leon2982, That engine would make an excellent replacement for the 216, would make your truck more modern traffic friendly.

Great engines, last forever, easy to over haul.
$500 sounds high. Buy it.

looks darn good to me, already clean! for a runner with the rad, trans and clutch that's a good price, not high - remember a useable rad has to be worth 1-150 and the same with the trans, and if you don't need them you can sell them - means a better engine than the 216 for 300 or less

Keep the valve cover and mounting studs from your 216 and put them on your new 235, few people will know you don't have the original splash oiler under the hood!
