Your best bet is to submit your concerns and questions here Scott. That way everyone can see them and you'll get better and more advice. Yes, I know sometimes you can also just get opinions and too many of them but really there are a lot of very sharp individuals on here who can steer you along. That is why this place exists and how it works.

So please just submit the questions and we'll get you started. And WELCOME to the Stovebolt page.

Scott,

Dave's advice is, as usual, very good.

Post the following information and you'll get helpful replies.

1. Year of your truck.
2. Year of the 216 engine.
3. Year of the 235 engine (and, if came from a car or a truck).
4. Transmission/rear-end in your truck: is it original to the year of the truck; otherwise, give year/type information.

thanks for the invite! iam not sure of eveything on years. the truck iam putting it it is a 1938 firetruck 6v system with i beleive a 3 speed on the floor, idue know you have to pull the lever on the gear shift to go into reverse. the 235 that i have has the bolts around the battom of the cover, i think its from a car(notsure). i would like to couple it to my trans to keep it somewhat orginal looking. Ive read about the front cover change and the bolts by the dampner pully that is used for engine mounts. not sure about the bell houseing and the rest. as far as making something thats ok for me to due

I think that you will use everything from the engine block back, from the 216. You can use the two studs that hold the 216 valve cover on to mount it on the 235 and then it looks almost identical. Also, with one of Pre68 Dave's water pump adapters, you can use the 216 water pump and have no clearance issues at all.

The swap you're thinking about is almost a bolt in deal. If your late 235 is 55 or later be sure and save the bell crank and linkage for the blab petal. You may want to think about the exhaust manifold as the really early 216's dumped a little different than the later 235's. As for the bolt holes under the damper they can be drilled befor installing the motor.

Not sure about '38 but for '41-46 if the transmission has a lever for reverse it's usually a 4 speed non-synchronized.
