It kinda feels like it’s running out of gas.
- It has gas. - It has good spark, I replaced the coil, the points, the condenser, the cap and rotor.. the cables seem good and so do the spark plugs. - It’s getting fuel, I replaced the fuel pump and installed a clear filter – no junk in the gas. - It has a new air filter - We tested the compression, not awesome… but acceptable: average of about 135 each. - We ran a leakdown test on Cylinder 1 (the one with the worst compression: 110)– seemed OK - It has a new alternator (that I got from a friend) - I even squirted a bunch of gasoline into my eye for good measure while changing the fuel pump. History on the truck: 1969 C-10, 250 inline 6, 3 speed Borg Warner overdrive (the overdrive is not hooked up and it’s not attached to the carb). The truck is pretty beat down..
I have had the entire truck re-wired, and it has had the clutch and breaks fixed up. The engine is all stock except for the extra junk for the overdrive, but none of the overdrive solenoids are wired.
I think that my next step is to replace the carb. It’s a Rochester Monojet. I found one for $125.00 (wholesale price at Worldwide Auto Parts).
Plugs and wires?? I have no clue.

Turns out the shop that installed my reman 250 (from ATK ugh! tahts another story)installed the inline fuel filter in backwards. Once I flipped it around it ran ok

It would be a real drag if the fuel filter was backwards, I installed it. - Joe

If the filter is not flowing properly, or the carb isn't providing enough fuel into the mixture at part throttle, you can get a surge...it'll kinda stall then jump ahead, then stall a bit and so on. On other types of carbs I've fixed this by going to the next richer jets.

I drove down and filled the tank, even though I had a few gallons left (gas was sloshing, the gas gauge does not work)... On a full tank it runs great. That means that the pickup tube is messed up, or that there is crap in the tank. I have a new sending unit that should solve most of the problem, but if I don't get the tank cleaned the problem will come back.
- So it's off to the radiator shop to have it cleaned out.
thanks for all your input guys.
