The tail pipe wasn’t connected properly and all the exhaust was going into the cab, I also replaced the thermostat for the hell of it.
Anyhow I was running the engine to warm it up (with out the radiator cap) and now that the tail pipe to flange is sealed I notice a little smoke coming out of the valve cover oil filler cap. It wasn’t a lot but it was enough to notice it faintly in the sun light glare.
What causes this? Excessive gas vapors? Or is this normal? New manifold gasket?

The PCV valve will suck these back into the engine if its hooked up and working right. The draft tube of the older engines release this vapor out under the vehicle. Since the rings cannot seal 100%, a small amount of compression gets by which mixes with oil and becomes the vapor you see. Joe | | |

Unless You added a pcv or Your draft is not stopped up, I would not think a little whiff of smoke caught in the sunlight would be of any concern. Someone with more experience than me (Wrenchbender Ret.) or others.

My 235 doesn't have the down draft tube, I did clean out the PVC valve while I was cleaning the manifold. The old fittings were nearly clogged it only had a pinhead size opening. I didn’t think it even needed a PVC valve, I guess I will replace that while I am at it.
I kind of figured it was normal. I was used to this on the old air cooled VW engines. I used to be a VW guy until I saw the light. | | |
