We need the number that's stamped on the pad by the distributor. This gives the exact original application, as block castings could have multiple applications.

f151 is a block date casting code.

Having the above information, the date is:

f = June
15 = 15th of the month
1 = 1961

The page shows locations for all engine codes. Look for the head casting code.

If what you posted, 3769716, is the engine serial number, information seems to be missing.

That's the casting number. I'm looking for the serial number, which is in this location, and is a stamped number.

The raised block casting number you posted 3769716 is below the distributor. Are you sure the number isn't 3739716 because that block casting was used in cars and trucks in 1961.

The number the guys are asking for is a stamped number on a flat machined area just to the left of the distributor. You have to clean off the crude to see it.

3769716 and 3739716 have been listed by various sources as both being used in 1961 (1958-1963).

If you cannot find an engine serial number, and if those block codes were used in trucks and cars, you would have to check the lifters to see if it was a truck engine (mechanical lifters) or a car engine (hydraulic lifters).

The engine serial number should give more information about the model of the vehicle the engine come in.

I think trucks started with that casting # in 1960 with date codes thru 1962.

Cars, both with standard and powerglide trans, in 1958 with date codes thru 1962.
