Can anyone help me with the color of paint to use for the heater in my 51? Chev's of the 40's lists it as a silver hammertone but my heater is more of a blue with a touch of green and silver. I believe it is original as the Chevrolet stickers were on it. I need to find a PPG color match if possible. Thanks in advance for the help!

Oops slow down Bob, I think you’re stuttering. The paint on my Harrison H-02-47 heater housing was in excellent shape but there were a few spots that I wanted to touch up. I spent a couple of weeks and looked for a match in all of the retail rattle cans out there and there is no match for the original hammer tone. The texture is WAY rougher than the original and none of the tints match exactly. Here are some pictures of the samples that I tried. The Hammerite Rust Cap 41185 Bronze and Rustoleum 7218 Dark Bronze came the closest and if you used either one I don’t think anyone would ever notice the that it wasn’t the original tint; http://www.pbase.com/dennygraham/harrison_h-02-47
I didn't bother with the PPG dealer; I've been dealing with Fox Valley Auto Paint over on Hankes road in Aurora. I don’t think they can mix a hammer tone paint, if you happen to check let me know the out come.

The Rustoleum 7218 dark bronze looks a lot better than the stick out like a sore thumb metallic green silver color you say you have. I have a heater to replace the one that came in my truck. I bought it on ebay and it his that same green color. I thought maybe it was used in some other vehicle. It is an ugly color next to the interior color of the AD truck. The Rustoleum Denny mentioned looks great. If Denny says they won't notice, they wont notice.

Ok, this helps. My truck had the blue / green heater like Neils. I hated the color but wanted to stay original. I'll match the Rustoleum 7218 and spray it. My buddy owns a body shop and has already blasted it down to bare metal and primed it. He promised to disown me if i use spray paint on my truck...I'm lucky to have his help! This weekend is the windlace. i already know I'm in for a visit to hell with that one. Thanks again for the pointers.

Oh I don’t think your painter will object to you spraying the heater with a rattle can. I really don’t think there is any hammer tone paint available in bulk. Again, if you find there is, please let us know.

I haven't done the windlace yet Bob but I’ve got a set on order. They were back ordered for months before I canceled the order, we’ll see if they have them in stock this time. Let me know how that adventure turns out for you. I may have a couple of them to do, if I can learn from others mistakes or discoveries I’m sure open for that.

Tech Sheet on a Sherwin Williams product, reference came from H.A.M.B.

"Dimenso® One Coat Enamel is a one coat, two purpose, three dimensional alkyd gloss enamel for general product
finishing.
Dimenso dries very fast or can be baked to provide a unique, hammered finish. Also, when properly reduced, it will produce an opalescent effect."

Sherwin Williams Dimenso

Looks like they have the Coppertone color.

That's very interesting Mike, how in the world did you find that???? I'd like to get hold of someone at SW and ask a few more questions about it.
