For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2009 Posts: 164 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2009 Posts: 164 | OK if you will guys please help, I have searched stovebolt.com for tech tip tail light mounting, looked through dozens of pictures of 53 3100's in the gallery, searched Google images for 1953 3100 pickups and everyone seems to have a different way of mounting the tail lights. I bought the chrome Grove stock replacement lights and mounting brackets. I actually saw a few with ford tail lights mounted on them (no comment). The 2 bolt holes below the tail gate trunions go through the box rails, do the mounting brackets mount on the outside of the box rails directly below the tail gate trunions or on the inside? I am cornfused and want to do it the correct way. Thanks for any help. I found that the mounting brackets from Jim Carter only mounted one way in the original holes. I would be happy to take a picture for you if you want. I'm not familiar with the Grove product. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2009 Posts: 164 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2009 Posts: 164 | Hmmm.. It doesn't really help, the detail is to small to see what side of the box post they have it installed on, but thanks. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 1,519 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 1,519 | If you look in some of the parts supplier's catalogs does it show a picture of how they mount? On my 54 they go on the forward part of the stake pocket. This is a '50, 3604 but that should all be the same. be aware that your going to have to file out the hole in the passenger side bracket it you want to mount the tail light right side up. The wires won't clear unless you do. http://www.pbase.com/dennygraham/electrical Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

That's exactly the way I was going to mount mine (I hadn't come across the right side wiring problem yet cause I just held them up there) Then I got looking at how others were doing it and everyone does it differently. I think I am going to go with what you have there since that's what I was thinking also. It sure is nice to have this bolters website exactly for stuff like this! Thank you Sir. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | Well your welcome Johm, Stick around the site for a while, you never know what you might pick up and maybe you have something to contribute also. That mounting is not my invention, the passenger side tail light was an accessory back in the day and that instalation is taken directly from the GM instructions for that item. You may see some variation in the original brackets if you look around enough. The vendors only sell the one version but I believe even though the light it self was the same, that GM used a few different brackets over the run of the AD. Denny Graham Sandwich, IL
