Just want to understand how bad my brake shoes are currently.

The original lining was rivited and .187 thick . You should check you're drum diameter. As far as how thin the lining can get YOU'RE CALL. But new lining is cheep as compared to new/ used drums. I do not know how over thick/ size they can go. go here - http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/index.htm. Much good info. | | | | Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 397 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 397 | T-RUCK, holy smokes, my pads are barely 1/8" thick! Will get mine relined for sure! Thanks for the info!
BTW, can someone suggest a reliable place where I could send my brake pad mounts to get relined?
If not, is Uncle Alvin around? There must be a reliable place locally that would do this for me? Right? Or do I have to send them out?

Probably has "Friction" in the name... They will reline all sorts of brakes, install new springs, whatever. I had mine done at a truck and equipment brake and clutch place in Edmonton. If you can, ask at a few places and get prices. All 4 wheels for Big Blue cost me $185 cdn, several years ago.
Good luck.
Current fleet (subject to change w/o notice) \'49 GMC 3/4-Ton , 60 Austin Healey Frog-eye Sprite (some assembly required), 2011 Dodge Avenger, 2015 Jeep Cherokee. No, they don't all run. My other ride is a (B737)no, (B767)no, A320.... Update... was Embraer E190, now Boeing B787. Knowledge is a wonderful thing, but ignorance means you don't know you can't do something.
