Guys,

1954 3100 w/ 235

I'm looking for a vendor who sells the brass fitting that screws into the intake manifold and provides vacuum to the windshield wiper motor. I think it's about 1/2" pipe thread with a 90 degree turn into a hose barb fitting. When I got my truck it had been altered and had a short piece of galv. pipe sticking out....

Pictures of yours would also be helpful if you believe yours to be stock...

Thanks

My stock fitting got broken. I made up a new one that goes from the pipe thread in the manifold to a piece of steel line that I attach the hose to.

I'm assuming that's what happened to mine, ol' farmer fred fixed it by screwing in a piece of pipe, capped the end, and drilled and tapped the cap to accept a compression fitting with a short piece of copper line that the rubber line slips over.....

Again.... anyone know of some one who sells this fitting or do I need to try McMaster Carr?

Try the plumbing department at any of the big box home improvement stores, Home depot, etc. What you need is called a "pipe to tubing street ell" in brass. It will have a male pipe thread, and a hose barb on the other side of the 90 degree fitting. Some stovebolt manifolds have a 1/4" pipe thread in the manifold, while others will have a 1/2" pipe thread. The bigger rigs with Hydrovac brake boosters used the big vacuum fitting, while the ones with only vacuum wipers used the small one.

I find by far the best place to get this stuff is Ace Hardware. They have a great selection of brass fittings in the plumbing department. By far greater selection than Home Depot, etc.

Try orscheln's or tractor supply, They sometimes have this stuff, If you want one that is straight and not a 90
Kansas City Valve and Fitting has them(not stock but they can order them) they are $3.30 or close to that, the part number is b-4-hc-1-2 for 1/4" id hose, 1/8 pipe thread, or b-3-hc-1-2 for 3/16 id hose around $4.00. that is where I get my replacements (on my 1 ton and 1.5 ton)

Here's what I did on my 55.1 (pic)
I got it from either Home Depot or Lowes.
Its a brass bushing to reduce the 1/2" thread down to 1/4 (or 3/8) and then a hose barb elbow.

regards,
Leon

OK....

I think the answer is, "nobody sells an accurate reproduction of the original elbow, so go find something that works."

thanks guys, helpful as always!

If I remember correctly, the "original elbow" looked like a standard hex-sided 1/2" pipe thread plug with a 1/4" tube sticking out of the middle and bend over gracefully to 90 degrees. If I could not find one at the junkyard, I would make one out of a standard 1/2" brass plug. Drill a hole in the top center of the plug, and insert and solder in a piece of 1/4" tubing pre-bent to 90 degrees. Once you hit it with a little black paint it will look original.
