Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 9 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 9 | Hello everybody, been awhile since I have been on here. I'm working on the chassis of my 52 pu and wondering if anybody has tryed the combination that I'm doing. I have a 261 inline with a 700r4 trans and a s-10 rearend w/373 gears. I was wondering if there was any complications with the routing of the brake lines hitting the transmission or the exhaust system. I have not did my brake lines yet or set my engine and tranny in yet (still building) using stock master cylinder w/portion valve. Will drum brakes stop me ok and do I need to re-route brake lines from stock mounting? All help greatly appreciated,Thanks. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 | I imagine this will end up in the Driveline forum.
Why are you going to use a proportioning valve with a drum/drum system? I would think that you would need it for disc/drum system. I think your brake lines can be run in a way where there are no conflicts. The combination that you are putting together has been done before. A search should bring up a lot of posts. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 | I understand the proportioning valve in your system. It allows fine tuning of the relationship between your non-stock rear brakes and apparently stock front?
You've either included information we don't need, or haven't included enough.
You'll want to run your brake lines similar to stock, inside the frame rails and secured to crossmembers. You should have no trouble with them hitting the trans or exhaust unless its at the bellhousing crossmember.
How are you mounting the motor and transmission?

Install the engine and transmission first.
I suggest a disc brake upgrade and new master cylinder with your new found top speed. The drums will start to fade after a few high speed stops.
Brake lines and exhaust system would be run last.

I would really consider newer front brakes to match the rears. Disk might be overkill, but S10 front drums would be a great place to start if they ever had drums.
Overdrive will let you run with everyone else on the road, so you better be able to stop with them as well.

Got my mind on to many things a once. I meant a dual master cylinder. Thanks,Larry | | | | | Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 9 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 9 | I don't know how i will mount motor and trans yet, probably with side motor mounts if that won't be to much vibration with the 700r4 and i saw a guy that made a bracket for the trans mount. Looked good. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 9 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 9 | thanks Scott, Yea I'm getting my adapter from buffalo's | | | | | Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 9 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 9 | Thanks for all the info guys | | |
