The pre-'48 frame has a higher kick-up over the rear axle. You'll have a problem mounting the bed on the earlier frame. I've seen it done and it was real ugly!

I might be 100% wrong, but i thought 47-54 frames where pretty much identical, than the 55 1st obviously has the open driveshaft?

I think that OldSub meant: "The pre-'54 frame has a higher kick-up over the rear axle."
The 1/2 ton 54/55 A-D frame is different from earlier A-D frames (causing the problem described by OldSub).

That's not enough information to answer the question. If you are going to z the frame and channel the bed it no longer matters at all. If you want to retain the bed in a stock location you have a challenge. Once you abandon a stock look most anything is possible with enough time and money. But its best to have a very clear idea where you're headed before you start cutting and welding.
