Does the oil air cleaner come apart? If it does, how do I get it apart without breaking it? I've done a search and some guys have gotten them to open up, but I can't seem to figure it out. Thanks for any help.

Not really, just the two main parts come apart, but I am sure you already know that.

Brian,

Thanks for the reply. I was refering to the top piece coming apart. How do you clean the fabric without taking it apart? The decal is still on the top and it says to use kerosene. Do you just pour it in and let it drain?

If the paint on your air cleaner is not pristine - just put kerosene in the bottom and replace the top and let sit for a day.

Air dry the element to make sure all the kerosene is gone before replacing the oil.

I wanted to be careful with my paint - and wanted a deep cleaning, so I used a plastic pail to put the kerosene level just below the top of the filter (top part only in the pail).

I too was wondering if they could be forcably taken apart. I want to gut one and put a paper element in mine so all of the air is getting filtered. Anyone tried this? I don't like the looks of those cheap "Moroso" type air cleaners.

Scott-

Search oil air cleaner. There are a few that have done just what you want to do.
