The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop 67-72 Alternator Bracket Question

First of all I couldn't decide whether this question belongs here, in General Truck or in electrical, so if it's in the wrong place please excuse me.

I'm remembering back to a '67 Chevy truck I had with a 283 and short pump and it seems to me that the mount for the alternator brackets (upper and lower)bolted to the front of the head on the drivers side and not to the exhaust or intake manifold in any way.

Is my memory correct?

If so, I think a bracket set up like that is just what I need for my '58. If any one knows for sure or better yet, has pictures, please let me know.

My 68 with a 327 has the alternator bolted to the exhaust manifold. AFAIK it's original.

Chevy car used the untapped heads and manifold alternator mount through 68, 69 went to the tapped heads and long pump. Chevy pickup kept the short pump through 72 (for sure) but used tapped heads after 68 (IIRC). For certain, if your engine or rather it's heads are 68 or older it doesn't have any mounting holes on the heads. Thanks guys. Hmmm...it must not be the '67 then. Maybe I'm remembering one of the '72s I had. Is it possible that the '72 year model used an alternator bracket that bolted to the front of the head? It's all been decades ago.
