I'd like to get a 3.90:1 or a 4.11:1. I think there should be plenty available from 1/2 & 3/4 tons going to a smaller number. Does anybody know if these gears from the 1/2 & 3/4 tons will fit in the differential from the 1 ton's? Is there a source for new gears as opposed to scavenging old ones?
Also, is anyone aware of any type of locking axle assembly(Detroit Locker or other) or limited slip that is or was available for the differential?
My reasons for needing are two fold. I've got lots of intra-state trips on small state highways (60 mph speed limit) to make with large volumes of light weight material. I also go off road on occasion and would like to keep both sets of tires (dually) spinning.
Thanks for any help! | | |

As for the locker. Factory Lockers were available for the Eaton rears, so you can possible find one in the 67-72 replacement chunk. I have heard from the mud bog guys here that the 14 bolt FF gov-lok and detroit locker are almost a bolt in, but I have no details.

4.55 is what you're going to find the most of.
Try to find an Automatic. These generally had the lower gear ratios.
I can't help you with the Posi question, though. Sorry.
