the front yoke on the rear end has about 2" of free spin before it hits, noticed this when changing rear u joint, is there an adjustment or bad bearing or needing rebuild

Yours is shot if by "hit" (backlash)you mean when it comes into contact with the ring gear. That is measured in thousands. Sounds like you have some gear teeth missing.

That's bad. Pull the rear cover & see what you have. There should be no up or down freeplay in the yoke. There should be no side to side motion in the carrier. If it's in bad shape a used center section is the best way to go.

Post an ad in the parts wanted section of this website. Check localy for any salvage lots handeling old cars/trucks. Any one 55 second series to 62 will fit.

I would suggest pulling the back cover first and having a look. Just because there is rotational free play at the yoke does not mean the free play is between the ring and pinion. There can be a lot of free play in the spider gears and axle splines that can give you the same feel as free play when turning the yoke.
