Aside from the case being cracked, I think the fwd/rev switch is broke. Anyways, I saw Menards had a 19V cordless drill half off for $12.99, so I figured wtf. I added a 2nd year of warranty for $4.00 and must say it works well, the bits were crap and the keyless chuck takes two hands, but so far its able to drive the screws like the Hitachi could.
Today, I talked to local Hitachi parts people and the switch is $43, and the side covers are $30. A Guy on Ebay has new ones with charger and 2 batteries for $99
On the schematic of the Menards drill, the switch looks very similar to the one in the Hitachi. They have the parts and I would save about $7 and tax before shipping. Thanks for the tip. The cheap drill got a test today driving 3" construction screws and it worked just fine. I chucked up a wire brush in the Hitachi and almost stirred some paint with it, so even with just reverse it' s handy. Maybe I'll get some left handed drill bits.  I was tempted to copy the list of parts into Excel and add them up, but I didn't. | | |
