For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 78 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 78 | Hey guys,
found a really nice one at the junk yard. need some ammo for price negotiation. couldn't look underneath to see what pto was on it. what pto came on these trucks. his concern is it was a two speed more$. don't think it's going to be because it's just a dump, but knowledge is less money. it's got a 327 and a 4speed. is there only one style rear end for these trucks or more. thanks guys any info would be helpful

Then there is the swaps that could have taken place since the truck left the factory, more investigation is needed

C50's were generally considered ton and half trucks. The rear ends are generally 15000 lb units with a vacuum shift 2 speed chamber. Could be a larger one. The 4 speeds are an SM420 and there are many PTO's it could be but is most likely a single gear unit to drive the pump. Your statement "don't think it's going to be because it's just a dump" confuses me. Dump trucks take a lot of abuse and have to start heavy loads often in soft ground, etc. So yes...it probably is a 2 speed and yes they do cost more. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 78 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 78 | thanks guys, when I said two speed I was referring to the pto. haven't been around too many pto's. the owner seemed concerned about it being a single or two speed pto. never heard of one so I figured I'd ask someone more wiser than I.

If the owner is concerned about a single or 2 speed PTO, he probably bought the vehicle and never found out much about it. Maybe he's tired of looking at the thing and hopefully he doesn't have much in it. It's not something he can sell any day of the week. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 720 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 720 | The ammo is this: these big old trucks have a very small following, odds that he'll be able to part it out without putting it on the internet bit by bit are slim to none. As for the trans or rear end being something special, due to size, weight, and shipping issues, they'd have to go to local buyers & as such he's less likely to sell them at all, if ever. Same for the odd sized body panels specific to the big bolts. I've seen guys be difficult with junk yard rigs just because they dont really want to sell them, so it's going to be a crap shoot either way. I'd find out what the scrap value is (current $ per ton) and offer him something respectable. 1956 GMC 370 dump " 'Tater "1970 VW Volksrod "the Black Bomber" 2007 Chevy Avalanche 2020 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, 2005 Harley Davidson FLHTCUI I dig all cars, old and new, whether they were hammered out of American iron, German steel, or Japanese tin cans. I would just ask the man what would be the best he could do on it and see what he says. It's kind of hard to give advise without pictures or being there in person to check it out, but ask away. We will try to help the best we can.

I'm trading him for a '64 chevy stepside (a lot of rust but a good motor) and having it delivered. gonna get it after the new year. thanks for the info guys. and I got the standard answer of it ran when I parked it. no worries though, I've been collecting motors for a while. my wife finally found the camera the boys stashed for her ( 3and2 years old) so I'll take some pics when I get it. Thanks again for all your help.
