Howdy...I have a 1953 series 6400. Not sure what the engine is. I found a # on the passenger side right in front of the starter,"00774I9 F54ZC". When I took the starter off, there is another number,"CON L53". On the head, theres a number,
B13 887
066
570

I tried to look up all the numbers on the inliners website and came up with nothing. Am I looking at the right numbers? Also, is there a difference between the engine serial number and the casting number? I didn't find any kind of plate on the drivers side of the engine to indicate a babbot engine, and theres no shroud at all around the sparkplugs. Boy...Do I feel silly, I can't believe I can't figure this out!
Assistance please!

I thought this was already answered in your previous thread about this.

The number you give is the engine serial number, which is different than the block casting number. The serial number is stamped on the engine at the time of assembly. It gives the sequential build number, and, as decoded in that other thread, the engine plant, the model year, and the type suffix, which tells what the engine is and the type of vehicle in which it was originally installed. The block casting number is cast into the block at the foundry, and it identifies the block casting.

The L53 is the block casting date code. It decodes to December 5, 1953, which would fit with an early '54 model year block.

The B13 on the head is the head casting date code. It decodes to February 1, 1953. This appears to be a '53 head on a '54 block, which is probably why it has the old 2-stud valve cover. The head casting number, which should be on the top front left side of the head, next to the valve cover, would confirm this. The '53 235 head was a one year only deal, before the new '54's came out. It's casting number would be 3701887.

Look for the block casting number here.

Xram53...I finally found it. I really appreciate your patience with me on this one. I didn't realize there was a differance in numbers. There for awhile, I was starting to believe I had a Toyota, Mazda, etc or something else other then a Chevy!

Thanks alot for your help.
